Perilous Adventures to Thwart the Dark God

By Published On: November 5, 2010

At last, the stars are almost right!

Soon Nyarlathotep’s plans will come to fruition. Then the world will be irrevocably changed —but not quite yet. Pesky human investigators have learned much, but they must survive long enough to make sense of what they know, and take resolute action.

This roleplaying classic is a series of linked adventures forming one long and unforgettable Call of Cthulhu campaign. Horrifying deeds and dangerous sorcery dog those who dare attempt to unravel the fate of the Carlyle Expedition. The non-linear narrative keeps players baffled and on their toes. Action is the byword as the player-characters evade or combat cultists, magic, mad men, and the dread powers of the Outer Gods.

Masks of Nyarlathotep is a Lovecraftian exercise in horror and mystery. Set in 1925, adventures begin in New York, then move overseas to England, Egypt, Kenya Colony, Shanghai, and western Australia. Such extended globetrotting requires wit and planning by the players. Their investigators must have steady finances, good language skills, and a willingness to persevere despite governmental interference and cultist harassment. Meanwhile the keeper must bring to life different exotic locales, recreate the sensibilities of other cultures, and balance non-player-character foes and friends to allow each investigator to earn his or her own destiny—ultimate triumph, perhaps, or perhaps madness and agonizing death.

We offer this unforgettable Call of Cthulhu campaign in two bindings: the retail paperback edition or a limited-edition hardcover. The harcover features a sewn binding, cloth-covered endboards, and the title embossed on the front cover and spine in gold foil.

It features saloons, a bank, a general store, and a church. Most buildings are made of wood, though some boast of a brick addition or a stone foundation). Hitching rails are found in front of most buildings, and water troughs are set sporadically along the main street. Train tracks form one of the town’s borders. On the outskirts of Devil’s Gulch are mines, ranches, and box canyons perfect for hiding desperadoes.

HORRORS FROM YUGGOTH features new Call of Cthulhu adventures from Goodman Games. History tells us that General Umberto Nobile and Roald Amundsen overflew the North Pole in 1926, making the first trans-polar flight from Europe to America. In 1928, Nobile went back in the Italia, which crashed on the ice north of Svalbard, Norway. An international rescue mission was launched to find him and his aeronauts. Your characters are part of this mission – and the State Department wants you to rescue the survivors before the Russian expedition gets them! But soon this humanitarian mission becomes embroiled in international tensions, mysterious disappearances, and the cold arcano-science of Yuggoth.

THE GHOSTS IN THE HOUSE is a Call of Cthulhu campaign suitable for 3-6 beginning characters. The adventure emphasizes data collection and discussion over running and screaming, and thus it is suitable for beginning players as well as experienced ones.
